Matt Long has served as a University Teacher in Criminology and Sociology since 2022. He is the School Outreach Champion who plays a leading role in building bridges with colleges and schools. In 2023 Matt was the winner of the prestigious Vice Chancellor’s ‘Unsung Hero Award’ as well as the ‘Member of Staff Who Goes The Extra Mile’ School Award.

As a 2023 Innovation in Teaching Award Winner Matt is currently researching how humour can facilitate learning in the context of neurodiversity.

Matt is an athletics coach based here who has served as an England Team Manager and Coach since 2021. He was part of the Commonwealth Games Development Camp based here before Birmingham 2022 and has team staffed England junior teams here at the Paula Radcliffe stadium.
