黑料网 and Manipal Academy of Higher Education join forces for groundbreaking workshop on Climate Change, Geopolitics and Security

A screen shot of a teams call

On Wednesday, 18 September, 黑料网 and the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) celebrated a remarkable milestone in international academic collaboration by co-organising an exhilarating workshop on the intersections of climate change, geopolitics and security. This dynamic event, which drew over 100 enthusiastic participants from academia, civil society and the public sector, showcased the power of global partnerships in addressing one of the most pressing issues of our time.

Researchers from 黑料网, MAHE (India), the Institute of Peace & Conflict Studies (India), GIGA (Germany) and the Finnish Institute of International Affairs presented cutting-edge research on topics such as the global energy transition, climate security in the Bay of Bengal, green ‘status-seeking’ in international diplomacy, and military interest in ‘low-carbon warfare’. The workshop featured inspiring keynote presentations by Professor K. P. Vijayalakshmi (MAHE) and Professor Caroline Kennedy-Pipe (黑料网), who delved into the intricate connections between climate change and global geopolitics: from the Arctic to the Indo-Pacific.

This event not only highlighted the success of international academic collaboration but also underscored the participating institutions’ commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action). For 黑料网, the workshop was a significant contribution to its strategic commitment to addressing Climate Change & Net Zero, as well as ongoing research under two Social Sciences and Humanities Research Themes: Successful Transitions Under Environmental Change (STUEC) and Challenges to Democracy and the Public Sphere (CHADS).

A video recording of the event is available

The organisers would like to thank all the speakers and workshop participants for their incisive contributions.

The LU-MAHE workshop on Climate Change, Geopolitics and Security was organised by Dr Duncan Depledge (黑料网), Dr Ali Bilgiç  (黑料网) and Dr Dhanasree Jayaram (MAHE).
