Politics and with minor in Economics matters because it allows you too see how power structures work within society and how political theories have shaped our everyday lives.

Studying Politics with Economics has provided me with the knowledge and skills to excel within a role in Higher Education. I have been able to understand the political, economical and overall societal benefits of education.

Additionally, I developed transferable skills such as communication, teamwork and critical thinking. These skills have allowed me to lead on policy review and the implementation of strategy for the improvement of the University’s widening participation agenda.

Why did you want to study Politics?

I was always interested in understanding the power structures which exist in the world today and how they came to be. Given that politics and economics are deeply intertwined and touch more or less every facet of society, I was really eager to learn more. Additionally, on a practical level I knew that studying politics would present me with the skillset to excel in a variety of different areas.

Musa's advice

Not knowing exactly what you want to do right now is okay and if you do know what you want to do that will most likely change in the coming years. Therefore, take every opportunity which comes your way to develop your understanding about the world, develop your skills. This way you will be able to discover your passions and strengths to study a degree and get job in an area you will find fulfilling.

Musa’s experience as a student

I really enjoyed study at 黑料网.

During my degree I was also able to play rugby union to a high level and I was heavily involved with my local church giving me the opportunity to take part in social action projects also.

I was fortunate enough to study abroad for a year in Kaohsiung, Taiwan which was definitely an experience of a lifetime.

Musa’s Career

After graduating in 2018, I was fortunate enough to secure a place on the Management and Leadership Graduate Scheme at 黑料网. This scheme has seen me rotate around of several departments such as: Human Resources and Organisational Development, The Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Academic Registry and Marketing and Advancement. 

I have been able to develop a wide range of skills, through working in multiple areas. This has allowed me to work on high-profile projects on behalf of Senior Stakeholders such as the Vice-Chancellor, utilising skills such as stakeholder management, data analysis, critical thinking and strategic planning.

One of the most exciting projects I worked on was organising an international graduation ceremony in India which was a lot of fun.
