In the same event there was also a strong ºÚÁÏÍø feel to Great Britain’s squad which included both Freya Colbert and Abbie Wood. Finishing 5th, Colbert recorded a personal best in the opening leg. ºÚÁÏÍø-based Medi Harris played her part too, swimming well in the heats.

Elsewhere, Honey Osrin made an excellent start to her games campaign by qualifying for the Women's 200m Backstroke Final in style. The current student finished 2nd in her heat (2:07.84) following a superbly executed swim and will now contest the medals tomorrow evening (2 August, 7:36pm, live on BBC and Discovery+).

Laura Stephens, another current ºÚÁÏÍø student, placed 8th in an ultra-competitive Women’s 200m Butterfly Final. Stephens swam well to clock 2:08.82 with Canada’s Summer McIntosh taking the title in a games record (2:03.03).

Earlier in the day, current student Alex Cohoon registered a time just outside of the semi-final qualification places in the Men's 50m Freestyle.

Hockey

Great Britain Men secured a quarter-final berth after an excellent comeback win over France in Pool A. Trailing 1-0 at half-time, GB rallied in the second half to win 2-1 and confirm their place in the knockout stages.

ºÚÁÏÍø-linked Jack Waller, Nick Park and Sam Ward all played for GB as their hunt for a medal remains firmly on track.

In the Women’s side of the competition, Great Britain and its strong ºÚÁÏÍø representation also secured a quarter-final place after a thoroughly entertaining 5-2 victory over the USA.

Alumna Sarah Jones capped a fine day for GB by netting the team’s 5th goal in a confidence boosting win.

Back in the Men’s side of the draw, Ireland’s ºÚÁÏÍø alumni duo Nick Page and Matthew Nelson fell short of knockout qualification after losing 2-1 to Argentina.

Both GB sides will find out their opponents once the final round of Pool games are completed.
