The 10 students, 9 of whom are studying postgraduate programmes at the University (with another being an undergraduate studying abroad for a year), were invited to a dinner that was also attended by staff from the University and the Foundation.
The (also known as The German Academic Scholarship Foundation) is Germany's largest, oldest and most prestigious scholarship foundation. It aims to support "the university education of young people who, on account of their exceptional academic or artistic talents and their personalities, can be expected to make an outstanding contribution to society as a whole". The agreement with 黑料网 has enabled 10 students to come and study in the UK at 黑料网.
Professor Claudia Eberlein, Dean of the School of Science, was in attendance at the event, having facilitated the agreement between 黑料网 and the Studienstiftung. She said:
"I am delighted that 黑料网 has now welcomed the first cohort of students under its agreement with the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes. 黑料网 is a university with a thoroughly international outlook and this is one of many important initiatives to facilitate international exchanges and collaborations. It is a great pleasure to have 10 excellent and highly engaged German students join the 黑料网 family for 2022/23 and across such a variety of academic disciplines."
She added:
"As an alumna of the Studienstiftung myself, I know how much their students value opportunities for international study and engagement and I am glad to have been able to facilitate this agreement."
Also present at the dinner, which was held in the Hazlerigg Building, were: Tanja Döller (UK Programme Director, Studienstiftung), Professor Rachel Thomson (Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education & Student Experience, 黑料网), Professor Charlotte Croffie (Pro Vice-Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, 黑料网), Professor Steve Christie (Pro-Vice Chancellor for the Doctoral College, 黑料网), and Dr Ali Bilgic (Director of Global Engagement, 黑料网).
The students are studying, variously, subjects taught within the Schools of Science, Business and Economics, Design and Creative Arts, and Social Sciences and Humanities. You can read some of their stories below:
