Dr Mohammed Mabkhot

BSc, MSc, PhD

Pronouns: He/him
  • Senior Research Associate - Aerospace Digitalisation

Background

Mohammed has gained a strong academic background and professional experience over more than ten years. His journey started in high school, where he ranked among the top three students in the Sana'a province, Yemen. He holds a BSc in Industrial Engineering from King Khalid University, graduating with (1st honours), an MSc in Manufacturing Systems (1st honours), and a PhD in Managing Disruptions and Risks of Manufacturing Systems from King Saud University (KSU). Recently, he completed a 2nd PhD in the Adaptation of Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS) at (LBORO).

Mohammed currently serves as a Senior Research Associate in Aerospace Digitalization at the AVRRC: Centre for Virtual Engineering at LBORO, focusing on the development and application of digital-twin architectures in complex aerospace systems. His work involves pioneering research in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), tacit knowledge management, co-simulation environments, and the integration of high-fidelity models with digital-twins.

Prior to joining the AVRRC, Mohammed worked at the Intelligent Automation Centre, architecting the R&D of the MAESTRO and IRaaS projects. Before joining , he was a researcher at KSU, delivering, developing, and architecting three research projects (SAFE-TRACS, AI-SOS, AI-CPS). He also delivered multiple modules, including theory, lab, and tutorial sessions for industrial engineering, including discrete event and CAD simulation, industrial system information, operations management, optimisation, and manufacturing processes for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as co-supervising student graduation projects. His career also includes industrial experience as a production supervisor and later as a production manager for a leading industrial group in Saudi Arabia. He has published extensively in top-tier journals and co-authored multiple research initiatives in the European and UK landscapes, building a large academic and industrial network. He is also serving as a guest editor for the journal Systems and has co-chaired special sessions at international conferences.
